For the walkout, information was provided by a variety of sources. Normally, the WORD does not published stories or accounts with anonymous sources. The link for the following information was contributed by student Owen Hill and it updates earlier information from WORD Senior Editor-Producer Ashley Carpenter. On New York 1: Three arrested in March 4 walkout at Hunter were not Hunter students.

The following information was provided by a second source, not a student: Damage estimates, $25,000. Glass doors broken, turnsties damaged, graffiti on walls. A third source, non-student, says witnesses said they saw varmints who wore bandannas over their faces.

Another Hunter student activist reported the following: Hunter student activists were demanding that the outsiders (suspected of being New School and NYU students) leave campus. “The new school kids were in their own corner claiming to be anarchists and that the ISO kids were all talk. Basically they poisoned the event and I think it really took away from the message of student solidarity.”

“In fact a lot of the students who caused all the problems today were from the New School and NYU,” she said.

From a non-student eyewitness: ””The majority of students who walked out seem to be smoking cigarettes outside of the Kaye Playhouse or getting lunch at the Halal stand but some of them are also pulling fire alarms, vandalizing the turnstiles (which amuses me) and in the case of one student, smashing beer bottles outside of the journalism lab. Riveting.”
