What&#8217;s Happening Today!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>By Gregg Morris<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/hunterword.campusave.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WORD Classifieds<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Also, besides the awards announcement, for GIFF\u00a0Festival Awards Part 2, three films reviewed by this reviewer that didn&#8217;t win awards but should be seen post-GIFF. Full reviews in the works. Plus, at the end today&#8217;s GIFF schedule.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Three That Should Be Seen<\/h3>\n<p>LITTLE BOXES, directed by\u00a0Rob Meyer, the opening night feature, which seem to meander from\u00a0amusing to thoughtful to witty, about an interracial family\u00a0with an\u00a0African-American father and son and a\u00a0mom white, moving from Brooklyn into a college town community where\u00a0ethnic diversity has\u00a0yet to make a presence.<\/p>\n<p>TEENAGE COCKTAIL, an unexpected\u00a0 molotov\u00a0surprise, directed by John Charchietta, about two precocious, post-pubescent teens who deceive themselves into believing they are\u00a0<em>femme fatales, <\/em>resulting in their\u00a0youthful angst putting them\u00a0in harms way.<\/p>\n<p>THE DUEL, directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith, which has a stunning beginning and a powerful ending but in between\u00a0the alpha and omega &#8230;\u00a0was a long stretch that border on ennui more often than it should have.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Award Winning Films<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Best Social Impact Film, Documentary Feature<\/strong> &#8211; HOOLIGAN SPARROW<\/p>\n<p><strong>Narrative<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Feature \u2013 LITTLE MEN<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Narrative Short<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u2013 BEFORE THE BOMB<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Documentary Short<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8211; ANOTHER KIND OF GIRL<\/em><\/p>\n<p>GIFF\u2019s Opening Night Party featured the festival awards presentation in addition to a Performances by John Popper (Blues Traveler) and Dar Williams (whose music is featured in GIFF\u2019s Opening Night Documentary Feature THE ANTHROPOLOGIST). As part of the ceremony, actress and activist Kristin Davis presented the award for Best Social Impact Film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>List of Awards and Prizes &amp; Prizes<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2013 Best Social Impact Film &#8211; $10,000 Bresnan Award, Artist In Residence Prize from Jacob Burns Film Center<br \/>\n\u2013 Best Narrative Feature &#8211; $10,000<br \/>\n\u2013 Best Narrative Short &#8211; $2,500<br \/>\n\u2013 Best Documentary Feature &#8211; $10,000<br \/>\n\u2013 Best Documentary Short &#8211; $2,500<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Narrative Features jury included writer\/director Ned Benson, award-winning film editor Sarah Flack, and long time film critic Joe Neumaier. The Narrative Shorts jury combined producer Mark Lindsay, screenwriter David Negrin and producer Pouya Shahbazian. The Documentary Features jury included casting director and producer Asli Coker, actress Anna Lakomy, and director Nina Davenport.<\/p>\n<p>The Documentary Shorts jury included producer Marie Therese Guirgis, director Ondi Timoner, and documentary filmmaker Jeffrey Tuchman. It\u00a0supports important human rights initiatives, as part of its social impact focus.
