{"id":4353,"date":"2016-11-11T11:55:11","date_gmt":"2016-11-11T16:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hunterword.com\/?p=4353"},"modified":"2018-01-15T16:08:21","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T21:08:21","slug":"kay-lee-ebanks-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hunterword.com\/index.php\/kay-lee-ebanks-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Olivia Singh, Matthew Ruppert, Amina Talat Had Their Hopes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Editor&#8217;s Note: This article was undergoing editing before Donald Trump became the President-elect.<\/em><br \/>\nArticle by Kay-Lee Ebanks, November 11<\/p>\n<p>Olivia Singh, 21, did not know whom she supported as President when she registered to vote. \u201cI\u2019ve thought a lot about it,\u201d said the media major whose focus is journalism. \u201cI know both candidates aren\u2019t perfect, both are flawed in their own way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hillary is her choice said Singh, who sat on the steps by Room 470 in the Hunter North Building, and wore a black North Face jacket, a burgundy hoodie, black leggings, and a pair of black vans when she was interviewed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHillary will do far more for the country than Trump ever will,\u201d said Singh, a registered Democrat and Queens resident.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4288\" src=\"http:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG2929-1.jpg\" alt=\"img2929\" width=\"1000\" height=\"649\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Registered Republican Matthew Ruppert, 18, said that he was leaning more towards Donald Trump. He said that Trump\u2019s plans will help the working class and that he is also swayed because of his family\u2019s political views, who according to Ruppert, are all registered Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Trump &#8220;caters more towards the working class people and he\u2019s trying to make America rich,\u201d said the bio-chemistry major who wore grey sweatpants, black adidas sneakers, a grey hoodie and a black coat. Ruppert, interviewed on the third floor of the West Building, also said that he believed that Trump\u2019s economic policies will help with his career after graduation. Trump will \u201cmake America rich again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough he avoided taxes, Trump will try hard to make a balance towards a general middle class where profits will be evenly distributed,\u201d said Ruppert. The New York Times published an October 31 story headlined, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2016\/us\/politics\/trump-taxes-loophole.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How Donald Trump Avoided Paying Taxes Using Other People&#8217;s Money.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The freshman said that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2016\/08\/31\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-immigration-changes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump\u2019s immigration plan<\/a> \u201cwon\u2019t affect him\u201d because he was \u201cborn here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amina Talat, 24, born in Lahore, Pakistan, and who has lived in America for over 23 years, said, \u201cIf I could vote, I would vote for Hillary,\u201d said the media studies major whose focus is journalism. \u201cShe knows about politics and is not an entertainer.
