Picture by Arber Rexha<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jackelyn Tello, a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in history and minoring in Spanish, interviewed near the third-floor student cafeteria for her opinion about your government shutdown, said, \u201cThe government shutdown is bullshit! It has no benefit for the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tello, wearing a pink hoodie and bright blue ripped jeans and pink sneakers, said, \u201cif the wall is eventually built, we will end up paying more taxes to maintain the wall.\u201d This resident of Soundview, Queens, was one of three students interviewed for this article about student opinions of the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>Because it&#8217;s unlikely that you are unaware of <em>the WORD<\/em>, this reporter will be publishing a similar version of this article on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">White House website<\/a> as part of the <em>WORD&#8217;S <\/em>CONTACT THE WHITE HOUSE PROJECT. Picture by Arber Rexa<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Opeyemi Ojo, 19, a sophomore majoring in psychology and creative writing and who lives in Far Rockaway, Queens, told this reporter that you did your 35-day shutdown \u2013 December 22, 2018, EST and ending January 25, 2019 \u2013 for selfish reasons and that you should have considered the harm you would be causing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/cities-and-states-with-the-most-federal-workers-affected-by-the-shutdown-11547294400\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">legions of federal government workers and their families.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ojo, wearing a grey sweater, dark grey jeans and white sneakers at the time of her interview in the third-floor student cafeteria, said that you were trying to force Congress to pay for your wall, which, according to a Wikipedia description of the <em>Trump wall,<\/em> &#8220;is a <a title=\"Colloquialism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colloquialism\">colloquial<\/a> name<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trump_wall#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> for a proposed expansion of the fence that makes up the <a title=\"Mexico\u2013United States barrier\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mexico%E2%80%93United_States_barrier\">Mexico\u2013United States barrier<\/a> during the <a title=\"Presidency of Donald Trump\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Presidency_of_Donald_Trump\">presidency of Donald Trump<\/a>.&#8221; More information about the wall can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trump_wall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2018%E2%80%9319_United_States_federal_government_shutdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In-depth Wikipedia Report About the Shutdown<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12734\" src=\"http:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH-768x573.jpg 768w, https:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH-560x418.jpg 560w, https:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH-260x194.jpg 260w, https:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH-160x119.jpg 160w, https:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/newcontactWH.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ojo also said that you tried to take Congress &#8220;hostage,&#8221; and if that worked you would consider doing something about the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DREAM_Act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DREAM Act<\/a> after the wall was built. She was not clear about what she meant about doing something about the DREAM Act. But the Guardian newspaper published an interesting story, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2018\/jan\/20\/government-shutdown-dreamers-immigration-democrats-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Failed Deal Over Dreamers at the Heart of U.S. Government Shutdown<\/a> that provides insight.<\/p>\n<p>Rohan Hutchinson, a 21-year-old junior majoring in political science and theater and minoring in sociology, said he wasn\u2019t affected by the shutdown but he saw posters and flyers around Jamaica, Queens, \u201cabout helping those who weren\u2019t getting paid by the government.\u201d Hutchinson, wearing a jacket, a T-shirt and black khaki pants, said that custodians in and near the buildings where he lives in were trying \u201cto help residents get by.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12740\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12740\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-12740\" src=\"http:\/\/hunterword.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/arber1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12740\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rohan Hutchingson. Picture by Arber Rexha<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A member of the Student Board Directors for the New York Public Interest Research Group Fund, known as NYPIRG, Hutchinson said \u201cthe buildings run by the supers in the neighborhood wanted to help.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nypirg.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NYPIRG<\/a> is a nonpartisan nonprofit, research and public education organization with chapters on a number of college campuses.<\/p>\n<p>The increasing internal conflicts being created within the government and the many negatives of building a wall near the border of Mexico, as well as investing in border security alone, has lead to divisive relations between the people and elected politicians.
