The 2023 Tribeca Festival, presented by OKX, announced April 18 its lineup of feature narrative, documentary, and animated films. This year\u2019s Festival, which takes place June 7-18, showcases the best emerging talent from across the globe alongside established household names.<\/p>\n

The 2023 features program includes 109 feature films from 127 filmmakers across 36 countries. The lineup includes 93 world premieres, one international premiere, eight North American premieres, one U.S. premiere, and six New York premieres. There are 43 first-time directors and 29 directors returning to Tribeca with their latest projects. 41% (45) of all feature films are directed by women and, for the first time, more than half of competition feature films are directed by women at 68% (19). Additionally, 36% (39) of feature films are directed by BIPOC filmmakers, including two indigenous filmmakers.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Festival also includes a notable number of films directed by actors: world premiere of First Time Female Director<\/em> by Chelsea Peretti<\/strong>; world premiere of Maggie Moore(s)<\/em> by John Slattery<\/strong>; world premiere of Bucky F*cking Dent<\/em> by David Duchovny<\/strong>; world premiere of Downtown Owl<\/em> by Lily Rabe<\/strong> and Hamish Linklater<\/strong>; world premiere of Eric LaRue<\/em> by Michael Shannon<\/strong>; world premiere of Fresh Kills<\/em> by Jennifer Esposito<\/strong>; North American premiere of The Listener<\/em> by Steve Buscemi<\/strong>; New York premiere of Shortcomings<\/em> by Randall Park<\/strong>; and more.<\/p>\n

There are 53 documentary features across all categories including the world premiere of Marvel\u2019s first original documentary Stan Lee<\/em> by Tribeca alumnus David Gelb<\/strong> as well as world premieres from Academy Award winners and nominees including Julie Cohen<\/strong>, Waad al-Kateab<\/strong>, Morgan Neville<\/strong>, Sam Pollard<\/strong>, Rob Epstein<\/strong>, and Jeffrey Friedman<\/strong>. As an activist festival rooted in the foundational belief that art can inspire change, the 2023 Tribeca Festival showcases numerous documentary features that shine a light on the ongoing war in Ukraine as well as the silencing of artists in Iran.<\/p>\n

For the third year, the Tribeca Festival continues its commemoration of Juneteenth through the \u201cExpressions of Black Freedom\u201d program, sponsored by Indeed, which includes a festival-wide celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, the world premiere of All Up in the Biz<\/em>, a documentary about New York hip-hop legend Biz Markie<\/strong>, and the world premiere of Cinnamon<\/em>, directed by Bryian Keith Montgomery Jr.<\/strong> and starring Damon Wayans<\/strong> and Pam Grier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re also proud to highlight the 50th anniversary of hip-hop as a culture-defining genre that originated right here in New York City, with insightful world premieres about beat-boxing legends and live performances from today\u2019s top-charting musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2023 \u201cSpotlight+\u201d category includes a series of live events that bring the film experience to life following each premiere. A performance from She Is The Music artists, curated by Alicia Keys<\/strong>, will follow the world premiere of Uncharted<\/em>; Sara Bareilles<\/strong> will give a special performance following the world premiere of Waitress, the Musical – Live on Broadway!<\/em>; the one and only Gloria Gaynor<\/strong> will perform following the world premiere of Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive<\/em>; a conversation with Peabody Award-winning news anchor Dan Rather<\/strong> and director Frank Marshall<\/strong> will follow the world premiere of Rather<\/em>; Gogol Bordello<\/strong> will perform following the world premiere of Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story<\/em>; a songwriting masterclass by Indigo Girls<\/strong> will follow the New York premiere of It\u2019s Only Life After All<\/em>; a musical Q&A with Marc Rebillet<\/strong> will follow the world premiere of Songs About Fucking<\/em>; and a group of dancehall legends will perform following the world premiere of Bad Like Brooklyn Dancehall<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Tribeca Festival is expanding its \u201cMidnight\u201d offering with the introduction of \u201cEscape from Tribeca,\u201d a psychotronic sidebar presenting genre movies from across the globe, including the world premiere of India\u2019s big-budgeted visual feast Adipurush<\/em>, directed by Om Raut<\/strong> and starring Prabhas <\/strong>and Kriti Sanon<\/strong>. Festival-goers are also invited to a 50th anniversary screening of the global phenomenon Enter the Dragon<\/em> followed by a talk with co-star Angela Mao<\/strong> and producer Andre Morgan<\/strong> about superstar performer and choreographer Bruce Lee and the production of the film.<\/p>\n

The Tribeca Festival is also proud to announce that the second annual Human\/Nature Award, a prize established to amplify a film that best exemplifies solution-oriented environmental storytelling, goes to Common Ground<\/em>, directed by Rebecca <\/strong>and Josh Tickell<\/strong>, and will world premiere at the Festival.<\/p>\n

The Festival was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in 2001 to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan following the attacks on the World Trade Center. The annual Tribeca Festival will celebrate its 22nd year from June 7\u201318, 2023 in New York City.<\/p>\n
