DREAM CREEP Film Short Review (2024): Part 1 – As Ghoulishly Creepy As All Git Out

This horror film by Director Carlos A.F. Lopez will not have audiences squirming on the edge of their seats. Rather, this demonically unrelenting beast can fiendishly seize audience members’ minds, bodies and souls and transport them to a horrific dimension of space and time.

Here is the Rotten Tomatoes link to what it calls the Ten Scariest Horror Movies Ever Made and here is the link to the Hollywood Reporter’s Critic’s Picks: 15 Scariest Movies of All Time. DREAM CREEP blows them all away and it’s only a movie short of about 17 minutes. What about horror film making auteurs like Romero, Cronenberg, Craven, Guillermo del Toro and so on and so forth, et.al? Either dead or alive, it’s time for to make room for the new kid on the block. What follows is a taste of the magic Carlos A.F. Lopez wields in his amazing short with this dialogue excerpt from early in the film.

Uh Oh

Excerpts From a Ghoulish Nightmare of a Film

Suzy: Can anybody hear me? Can anybody hear me? It’s me. Can you hear me? Listen, you can. If you wake me up, I will die serious, David, I will literally die. So you have to speak very softly and as close to my ear as possible. Just make sure I don’t wake up. Do you understand? How are you doing that quiet than that?

David: Sorry. Sorry. Freaking me out. What’s going on? Should I call an ambulance? What do I do?

Suzy: David? Listen. I know what I’m about to say. Sounds crazy, but you have to trust me. I’m speaking to you from inside my dream or nightmare or whatever the fuck this is. You’re hearing me through my ear hole? Yeah. Yes. Okay, good. I’ve been trying to get your attention from in here and it finally worked. This doesn’t make any sense. Trust me. Nothing makes any fucking sense in here. I’m starting to figure it out. I don’t have much time though. Please, just listen. You need to go get a shower. You don’t wake me up.

Suzy: Listen to me. Whatever is allowing you to hear me right now is beyond my control, so we have to deal with this quickly. If you want me to get out of here alive, I know, I know. I’m sure. I’m just as freaked out as you right now. I’m doing all the same things, but I am the one in here, okay? All I can hope is I allow for the possibility of what I I’m experiencing is true and what you’re thinking is wrong. No. What needs to be done depends on, you’re doing exactly what I say and needing to understand the reasons why. Unfortunately, chances will be able to do so I don’t die in here. Okay?

David: What do you need me to do?

Suzie: Oh, thank God. Okay. First you need to go to the kitchen and get the meat thermometer. The one we got when we tried to roast the Turkey for Thanksgiving. Yes. God. I know, but why do we just trust me? Okay. Did you get it? Yes. Yes. What that, okay, great. Okay, now fix it carefully. I need you to stick it in my ear hole as far as it will go.

David: No, I hear what you said. I’m not doing it.

Suzie: Please listen to me. Something is coming after me in here. I didn’t want to bring it up earlier because I didn’t want to freak you out, but I need you to be alarmed right now because this is the only way.

David: Suzie, this is crazy. I’m not going to stab your. I’m really fucking scared right now.

Suzie: I can try to explain it all when I’m out. We don’t have time right now. How can I make you understand? We have to do it now!

A film short this superb begs the question: Is there a feature film in the works or on the drawing boards?
