First Impression of New Hulu Thriller Candy

Hulu recently revealed a first look into its new limited series “Candy,” starring Jessica Biel, and it looks promising. The series will premiere Monday, May 9, and will cap off its five-night event with a finale on Friday, May 13th.

Reviewing the publicity material sent this reviewer’s way and the true life account it’s based on, I would be surprised if Candy doesn’t get high ratings for being thrillingly horrific. It’s steeped in deception, suspense and drama.

Storyline snippet: Within 3 years of moving into a new neighborhood, Candy Montgomery (Jessica Biehl) has an affair, eventually slays, unmercifully, her paramour’s wife (Betty Gore played by Melanie Lynskey), yet, is subsequently acquitted after being arrested and indicted for murder.

If the series doesn’t take too much creative and theatrical liberties,  Candy could rake up ratings. This is Jessica Biel’s fourth time producing and starring in a show of her own. She is riding the waves of the success of  The Sinner TV series.

Co-star Melanie Lynskey as Betty Gore recently won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her performance on the Yellowjackets TV series.  Both actresses enjoyed a lot of success with this genre, a story contingent on how these women interact –  a better pair couldn’t have been selected even with the late scratch of Elizabeth Moss who would’ve played Candy.

If you are a fan of high tension thrillers ripe with suspense and betrayal, tune in May 9 and be ready for the high-octane finale Friday the 13th.
